Growth Habit

3-5 x 1.3 cm; deciduous; oblong to oboval; rather thin, pliable; base rounded or cuneate; apex obtuse or rounded; margin entire or with shallow lobes or slightly dentate near apical 1/2; 9-12 pairs of lateral veins, ending the teeth (if any) in a mucro; dark green, slightly tomentose above; pale green and densely pubescent beneath; petiole glabrescent, slender, red, 0.5-1 cm long;

male catkins 2-3 cm; female inflorescences 1-5 cm, bearing 2-3 flowers on a thin, tomentose peduncle;

acorn solitary or paired; subsessile; cup with light brown scales;
