Leaves

3.5-12 x 2-4.5 cm; crowded towards branchlet apex; oboval to oblong-elliptic; apex rounded with a short point, base cuneate; leathery, stiff; brightly green, glabrous above; pale brown tomentose beneath with stellate hairs; margin entire, révolute, sometimes ondulate near apex; 6-10 vein pairs impressed adaxially and prominent beneath, such as the midvein; petiole 0.8-1.5 cm, densely pale orangish brown tomentose;

Flowers

from December to March; female inflorescences to 4 cm long, flowers 1.6 mm wide; 3 short styles, hairy but stigmas are glabrous; male catkin 8 cm long;

acorn globose, flattened, 1.5-2 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter; glabrescent; basal scar 4-5 mm wide, flat; enclosed 1/2 or 1/3 in cup; cup 0.9 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter, tomentose, with scales in 4-7 concentric rings, margins remotely denticulate; maturing the first year;
