Leaves
2.5-13 x 1.5-8 cm; thick, stiff; oboval or elliptic; apex rounded; base variable; margin with 5-7 deep lobes, each one with 1-2 teeth; bright dark green above, light green, pubescent beneath with short simple and stellate hairs; turning yellow or red at fall; 4-8 veins pairs; petiole pubescent 1.5-2.5 cm ;

spring; male on 3-5 cm long catkins;

acorn 1.2-3 cm, sessile, elliptic, apex somewhat flattened; single or to 3 on a short peduncle; shallow scaly cup; edible, sweet; maturing in 1 year;
