Leaves
8-10 x 2.5-5 cm; persistent; lanceolate; apex long acuminate and often asymmetric; base rounded; margin entire remotely revolute; nearly concolor, both faces green and shiny ; tomentum persistent at axils underneath; 12 pairs of lateral veins, slightly raised beneath, at an angle of 50° with the midrib; petiole 1.5-2 cm, becoming hairless;
Flowers
male catkin 4 cm long, densely flowered, glabrescent, anthers oblong hairless; female catkin 5 mm long with 2 flowers;
Fruits
acorn 1.5 cm long, ovoid; 2 to 3 on a 1.5-2 cm long, tomentose peduncle; cup turbinate 1.2 cm in diameter, enclosing less than half of acorn; basal scare 6 mm in diametre, nearly flat; maturing first year;

– A. Camus : tome 2, p. 376, n° 351; – Sub-genus Quercus, section Lobatae, Series Erythromexicanae; – For today’s Mexican Authors (Susana Valencia-A., 2004), this species described by Martens & Galeotti is not currently valid ; it may be a hybrid, or a morpholigical variety…For Zavala-Chavez, 2003, it is a variety of Q.laurina . However, in 2012, Susana Valencia-A. has categorically identified this taxon, after having studied a specimen collected by Francisco Garin (managing director at the Botanical Garden of Iturraran, Spain).
