7-20 x 3-15 cm; thick; apex pointed, base cuneate; 3-5(-7) lobes each side, sometimes toothed, central lobe usually with 3 teeth; deep sinuses; yellowish green above, pale beneath with rusty hairs along veins; prominent veins; petiole 0.5-2 cm, glabrous, twisted;

male on 8-10 cm long catkins;

acorn 2-2.5 cm long; brown; short peduncle; cup shallow covering 1/3 of nut, with dark tawny scales; maturing in 2 years;

hardiness zone 7-8; prefers dry, sandy soils; slow growing;
