Leaves
5-12 cm x 1-4; evergreen; thick, stiff; elliptic, lanceolate or narrowly oval; apex pointed and acuminate, bristle-tipped; base cuneate or attenuate; margin revolute, entire or with some bristle-tipped teeth in apical 1/2; shiny, hairless adaxially, except some hairs along midrib; paler beneath, with axillary tufts; epidermis not bullate; 10-14 vein pairs strongly prominent beneath, moderately prominent adaxially; petiole 5-20 mm long, glabrescent.
Flowers
male catkins 3 cm long, few-flowered; pistillate inflorescence 1-2 cm long, hairless, bearing 1 or 2 flowers.
Fruits
acorn ovoid, 1-2 cm long; apex rounded and mucronate; singly or paired on a 5-20 mm long peduncle; cupule turbinate or cup-shaped, 1-2 cm in diameter, with remotely hairy scales, enclosing 1/2 of nut, or less; maturing in 2 years;
