5-9 x 2-4 cm; evergreen; flat, thin, coriaceous; broadly oblong, oblong-lanceolate or subelliptic; apex slightly attenuate or rounded; base subcordate attenuate; margin entire, sometimes denticulate near apex, with rare, short, mucronate teeth; adaxially with sparse hairs; stellate pubescent beneath, becoming glabrous; 5-6 vein pairs weakly raised below; tertiary veins thin, evident below; petiole 1-1.5 cm, with dense yellowish brown stellate hairs;

May-June; pistillate inflorescences 1-2 cm long, with tomentose axis, bearing 1-2 flowers;

acorn 1.5-2.5 cm long, ovoid, apex pubescent; singly or paired; enclosed 1/2 by cup; cup with 4-5 mm long, free, yellowish brown tomentose, narrow scales; maturing in 2 years;

not hardy; mixed tropical forests;
